Gira Ingoma in the 30 Districts of Rwanda

Gira Ingoma – One Drum Per Girl is a joint education program by the Woman Cultural Centre (WCC) in collaboration with Ingoma Nshya, Women’s Initiatives (INWI), that seeks to ensure girls and women participation in the creative and cultural industries, with a particular focus in the areas where they remain absent, few and/or excluded such as drumming, warrior dance, self-praising poetry, songwriting and juggling.

Building on seven years of training thousands of girls in eleven primary and secondary schools in Huye and Gisagara districts, 30 new schools from all the 30 districts of Rwanda are currently invited to join Gira Ingoma – One Drum Per Girl, in order to build a national platform for gender equality across economic, social, cultural, and political dimensions. The aim is to build durable, institution‑level partnerships that enable national scale‑up and allow Gira Ingoma to transition from project delivery to system‑level adoption.

The first national network meeting is planned to take place on the final day of the tenth edition of Ingoma Nshya Festival scheduled from 18 to 23 July 2026. Ingoma Nshya Festival 10 is supported by the Nando & Elsa Peretti Foundation (Switzerland), Guerrand-Hermès Foundation for Peace (UK) and the Mobile Arts for Peace / University of Lincoln (UK).
